Around the World

Around the World is the name of an exercise we often use to gauge rider balance, coordination, confidence and suppleness. This is a fun exercise involving dropping one’s reins, taking both feet out of the stirrups and moving around the horse with one leg at a time until the rider has completed a 360 degree turnaround on horseback. To begin with, this can be done at a halt, but as the rider’s confidence and balance increases, the exercise can gradually be done at a walk and even a canter. It is always recommended that there is a handler on the ground to assist with the pony, as well as to guide the rider.
