As of August 2019, Equanimity no longer offers trail rides, but we do offer a space for those who have their own horses to bring their horse and enjoy the trails, dams and scenery. Day rides at Equanimity take riders through the beautiful hills of the Bottelary Conservancy, within and beyond the borders of the 250ha Mooiplaas Wine Estate. There are virtually no borders between farms surrounding Mooiplaas Wine Estate and riders have nearly unlimited access to passed, hills, forests and winelands between the Bottelary Road and the Polkadraai Road. The farm itself produces eco-wines of a high callibre and the Roux family take the greatest pride in being faithful and diligent stewards of their property. Wildlife is respected and protected on the farm and this ensures that the environment is unspoiled and unsurpassed. Clients have been heard to say: “It is almost too much to take in” on trips up the mountainside. Table Mountain, Muizenberg, the Boland Mountains and even the hills of Durbanville can be seen, only half an hour’s walk away from the stables!
Wildlife is stunning in the area and the two dams on the farm supply a rich source of nutrition for birds of prey such as the African Fish Eagle and African Harrier Hawk. Their calls can be heard for kilometers and they truly add to the serenity of the area. Buck hide in the bushes of the conservation area and can be seen (if you’re lucky) at dawn and dusk. Come and see part of the Greater Bottelary Hills Renosterveld Conservancy on Mooiplaas and enjoy the trip with Equanimity guides to direct you through the area. Hiking trails are also available through Mooiplaas Wine Estate and Tielman Roos will be able to share rich insight into the environment and the farm’s ambitions.
